Argentina Connectivity

score 5.90

Argentina – excellent consumer infrastructure helps it climb the charts

Argentina moves up three places to 4th position, securing a slot among the top five resource and efficiency-driven economies on the Connectivity Scorecard 2010. The country overtakes most of its neighbors, including Brazil and Columbia, but continues to trail Chile, the strongest performer in the Latin American continent this year.

Argentina’s consumer infrastructure is its biggest strength, where it boasts high fixed and mobile tele-density and excellent broadband penetration. In addition, a literacy rate of 97.6% makes a significant contribution in bolstering its scores on the consumer usage and skills metrics.

The business segment is the biggest area of concern for Argentina. Relatively low spending levels on ICT hardware, software and services result in a mediocre performance. The country does boast a few strengths such as high penetration of personal computers and secure internet servers, but these do not make up for the bad results on other business-related metrics. Argentina’s performance on government-related metrics can at best be described as average.

Higher investments in ICT by Argentine businesses would help the country realize greater benefits of technology and extend the gains achieved through the deployment of an excellent consumer infrastructure.
