With a score of 5.46, Argentina ranks relatively highly
in 5th place among resource and efficiency-driven economies on the Connectivity Scorecard 2011. Despite falling one place, the country performs much better than neighbors Brazil and Colombia which rank 6th and 9th respectively, but is behind Chile, which at 2nd position emerges as the strongest performer from the South American continent.
While Argentina performs well in consumer infrastructure, skills and usage components respectively, its modest performance in the business and public sector, both in infrastructure as well as usage and skills, brings down its overall score. Argentina still trails the leader Malaysia (6.61) by a considerable margin, illustrating how much room for improvement there is for the country in its attempts to harness the power of Information and Communications Technology and reap the social and economic benefits achieved by others.
What the Connectivity Scorecard does show however, with Chile, Brazil, Mexico and Colombia all joining Argentina in the top ten countries, is that the Latin American region has been more successful than other emerging regions in the development of ICT, and that regional strength should boost future progress.
