Chile - Strong business infrastructure helps retain spot among top three

Chile maintains its position among the top three countries in its group of resource and efficiency- driven economies on the Connectivity Scorecard 2010. The country is the top scorer on business infrastructure-related metrics and this plays a significant role in boosting its overall score.

Chile performs strongly in consumer infrastructure led by a high penetration rate of mobile and fixed broadband. The country was the first in the region to embrace new technologies such as mobile WiMAX, IPTV, wireless VoIP, triple play, EDGE, and mobile voice-to-text, among others. Chile also has a high availability of international bandwidth, and strong penetration of personal computers, leading to its top-notch performance in business infrastructure.
On the other hand, the country’s performance in terms of business usage and skills is disappointing, considering its robust infrastructure. Business spending on hardware and software is relatively low and so are the international communications traffic levels. The country’s performance on the government-related metrics is also rather weak.

In view of the overall consumption patterns in the country, driving utilization of its Information and Communications Technology (ICT) resources will help Chile climb up the charts.
