Hungary maintains its 23rd position on the Connectivity Scorecard 2010 study, ahead of only Poland and Greece. While the country has improved its performance in some ICT measures such as household broadband penetration, there is still a lot of room for improvement.
In addition to achieving a four-fold increase in the household broadband penetration from 2005 to 2008, Hungary also boasts a relatively strong tele-density in the consumer segment. The country also performs reasonably well in terms of proportion of frequent internet users. Business infrastructure is moderate, with a 70% business broadband uptake and high enterprise tele-density.
However, Hungary performs poorly on most consumer usage and skills measures, including voice, SMS, internet banking and e-commerce, while low business spending on IT services mars its scores in business usage and skills. The country delivers a modest performance on all e-government and public sector-related metrics.
Hungary needs to boost its consumer and business infrastructure and focus on improving usage and skills across different user segments to fully extract the potential of ICT.
Apart from Poland, consumers in Korea spend the least on software out of all the innovation driven economies
