Business Connectivity Scores Hit Korea’s Connectivity Ranking

Korea’s strong consumer infrastructure contrasts with their usage on the 2009 Connectivity Scorecard.  The country features advanced data networks and excellent fixed-line resources, combined with strong 3G penetration and consumer access to very high broadband speeds.

Korea’s internet usage is above average, with certain specific measures registering somewhat weaker.  The country’s E-Government ranking is high, with excellent broadband access in schools despite average IT investment levels from the government.

On the business side, spending on IT resources and the percentage of jobs requiring ICT user skills in Korea is behind other economies.  Secure server penetration is low and only a small proportion of businesses sell or buy over the internet.  Indications are that the Korean economy is dominated by a few larger, technologically sophisticated organizations, with the remaining businesses displaying low levels of ICT specialization.
