Netherlands Connectivity

score 7.52

Strong All-Round Performance Contributes To High Connectivity Ranking

The Netherlands displayed relatively few weaknesses on the 2010 Connectivity Scorecard. As highlighted last year, the only real negative is in relation to consumer infrastructure even though it does well compared to Western economies. 3G adoption rates are average although broadband penetration is among the highest there is, while it performs better on download speeds and fibre deployment than its peers.

The Netherlands excels in consumer e-commerce and internet banking services, however the usage rates of voice and SMS services are low which may, as reflected in other countries, show a preference for other advanced forms of communication. Dutch companies have a high spend on IT services as well as a high Web presence. Citizens and enterprises use government web-based services frequently which are reflected in the high scores on e-government measures.
