Poland Connectivity

Poland - ICT performance still leaves a lot to be desired

Poland continues its poor performance on the Connectivity Scorecard 2010 with a below-par performance across most segments, with the consumer domain being the only exception. It overtakes Greece to finish in 24th position this year, largely due to factors such as lack of available data or a reliable method to gauge its performance.

The country demonstrates relatively strong tele-density and a decent household broadband penetration. Poland also reports fairly modest consumer usage and skills, with frequent internet usage and high adoption of internet banking and e-commerce.

Its performance is weak in the business domain however, where Poland reports low penetration rates of PC’s as well as secure internet servers. Business spending on IT services is well below other countries, indicating an unhealthy trend with regards to ICT usage. Poland also performs weakly on government-related metrics.

Poland requires a stronger push from the government and the enterprise sector to develop its ICT infrastructure and bring it to par with its peers in the European Union.
