Thailand finished just outside the top 10 performers on the 2009 Connectivity Scorecard. The country’s consumer connectivity infrastructure is good, with mobile penetration scoring higher than any other nation in the sample. This goes along with a solid literacy rate and above average consumer usage led by a high amount of voice usage.
Unfortunately, Thailand’s business connectivity is low across all infrastructure and usage metrics, with the exception of an acceptable level of secondary school enrolment. Online government services and spending on IT resources are similarly weak.
Thailand’s ICT sector demonstrates a need to improve broadband penetration as well as the availability of international bandwidth. Secure server penetration also has a lot of room for improvement. This could be accomplished through increased deregulation of the telecommunications sector. Further investment in human development and education by the government of Thailand could also go a long way towards improving business usage and the ICT skills of workers.
Businesses in South Africa spend the highest amount of any resource and efficiency driven economy on computer services
