The Philippines Connectivity

score 2.92

The Philippines - Weak business sector affects overall ranking .

The Philippines slips down three positions in the group of resource and efficiency- driven economies on the Connectivity Scorecard 2010. The country continues to stay ahead of India while trailing neighbors China and Thailand.
The Philippines is at its strongest in the area of consumer usage and skills. Here, the country claims the top position in SMS volumes, not just among the resource and efficiency-driven economies but in the world. It also scores modestly well in government infrastructure.

The Philippines’ biggest weaknesses lie in the business category where it scores poorly on virtually every metric. Weak business infrastructure and poor business ICT usage and skills weigh down its overall performance. In addition, the Philippines also reports gaps in its consumer infrastructure, with low PC penetration and weak broadband penetration.

The Philippines is witnessing rapid growth in mobile telephony and broadband, with several players earmarking investments in these areas. However, it is a big cause for concern that a country that aims to be the world’s back-office lags behind in the adoption and deployment of new technology. Higher business investments and greater government support could alleviate the challenge for the Philippines.
