Vietnam’s 15th position on the Connectivity Scorecard does not clearly highlight its potential.
The country performs best in the consumer categories with respectable consumer infrastructure and a high literacy rate together with good voice usage and moderate internet usage boosts its score in consumer usage and skills. The country also manages a respectable showing on the government-related metrics.
However, Vietnam is let down by poor performance in the business category. The country fares poorly on all business-related measures, including broadband penetration which is extremely low. Vietnamese enterprises need to make investments in developing a robust Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure to reap the benefits of connectivity.
However, Vietnam is expected to post the strongest growth in telecommunications among Southeast Asian nations and is, therefore, well-poised to capitalize on the connectivity opportunity.
